Why Australian SMEs are finally moving to managed IT

Our straight-talking view on a problem we see every week.

Insight

For years, small businesses treated IT as something that only existed when it broke. That model is wearing thin.

The points that matter

  • Break-fix means you pay premium rates for emergencies.
  • Outages cost more than prevention ever will.
  • Fixed-fee support turns a variable cost into a planned one.

Our view

Managed support is not for every business, but if you have more than ten staff and no dedicated IT person, the maths almost always favours it.

Have a question about your own systems? Get in touch — an honest answer costs nothing.

The bottom line

If your team loses more than a few hours a week to IT frustrations, or no one owns backups and security, fixed-fee support almost always pays back its cost in avoided downtime. If your team is too small to justify it, we will say so.

What to look for in a plan

A fair fixed-fee arrangement names the number of users and devices, the response window for critical issues, and what is included versus quoted separately. Ask how after-hours work is handled and how reporting works — if those are not in writing, the bill rarely stays predictable. The point is not the lowest price; it is knowing the monthly number before you agree.
